“Don’t come the raw prawn with me”  an Australian expression believed to have originated among diggers serving in World War II.   It refers to an attempt to deceive someone or misrepresent a situation – basically, “Don’t try to put one over me”.

The Raw Prawn is a news and comment page first launched in 2021 by Ballina-based journalist Rod Bruem.

“At a time of regional media closures including the loss of our long-time local newspapers, I saw the need for more diverse news and commentary.  That was my motivation for launching the site.

“Coming from Ballina, the home of the Big Prawn, the title and its connection to Australian vernacular seemed perfect.”
